.INFO ... Where the World Goes for Disinformation.sm

The .INFO registry opened on October 1, then promptly closed after our servers crashed. More than 350,000 .INFO domain names have already been registered, and maybe two or three of them will actually be used!

The Internet's first intentionally unrestricted top-level domain (as opposed to top-level domains intended to be restricted but whose incompetent or greedy registrars dropped the ball on enforcing the restrictions) is now open. Click here to see if your preferred .INFO names were grabbed fraudulently by sunrise cheats, or maybe if we misplaced the attempted landrush registrations for them so that they're still available. We've also prepared a Start-Up FAQ to give you vague, ambiguous, and constantly changing answers to your questions about Start-up names and registrations.

Please note: The Registry is now open for real-time registrations... we think. The 14-year-old son of one of our executives came in and rebooted the server, and it seems to be working now, though we can't figure out how to uninstall the "Britney Spears Nude" screensaver he put in. Now our 300-baud acoustic coupler modem finally stays connected, so we think any new domain registrations submitted by registrars will actually make it into the registry, eventually. One of these days, we'll figure out how to accept name server updates from the registrars so that people will actually be able to use the domains they registered. But we've got the important part working -- the registrars can accept money from registrants, and send us our cut of it.

.INFO is the Internet's first unrestricted top-level domain since .COM, .NET, .ORG, .TV, .CC, .WS, and a bunch of other silly ones. People across the globe are now speculating, lying, cheating, stealing, and arguing about .INFO names, opening up a new era in the exploitation of the Internet. Maybe some day a few of them will even set up Web sites using these names.

.INFO domain names are not actually available for any use, but our registrars will take your money to attempt to register them anyway. Unfamiliar, unuseable, and hardly recognized, they're our opportunity to prove that there's a sucker born every minute.

Awfulass is the official .INFO registry, appointed by ICANN'T, the non-sensical corporation that discoordinates the technical mismanagement of the Internet's domain name system. Awfulass' mission is to make .INFO a resource that takes lots of money from the people of the world, and perhaps eventually gives something in return.
